Voodoo PC and HP tie up September 29, 2006

Forbes is reporting that HP has acquired hot rod PC maker, Voodoo PC. Dell recently acquired Alienware which was also a gaming PC maker. The climate during the Dell acquisition is very similar to that surrounding the HP acquisition. Dell had been under-performing with lower than expected financial statements plus the fact that Intel tied up with Apple. How did Dell react? Dell not only acquired Alienware but announced that it would start using AMD chips as opposed to Intel only chips. This may have taken the heat of them for the mean time but with Apple’s continuous resurgence Dell may still be coughing and sneezing for some time.
Back to HP whose chairman recently resigned because she had apparently authorised the use of some crooked methods to unearth the mole within the board. Suddenly Mark Hurd see’s the need to change the focus by announcing that HP had acquired Alienware, well this might not be the case. But the computing industry just got a whole lot serious.
Congratulations to the chaps at Voodoo and HP for making the industry a lot more interesting.

Cnet is reporting that Microsoft has slipped into bed with Nortel networks. They two firms have tied the knot and decided to mate their intellectual property in other to challenge Cisco. Cisco makes communication equipment (like the routers that power the Great firewall of China) and some times communication software. Cisco entered into the consumer communication market with Linksys and then with those Cisco VoIP corporate phones that can do video and voice.

See part one here.
2 days ago I was in a meeting, unknown to me I had to introduce myself since I was new in the team I was assigned. What did I say …. i think it went something like “My Naaammmee is Peter Irojah, erm, erm, I wen to university college London, erm, I worked here last year”. it amazes me how off-guard and ill prepared I was. It got me thinking and reading, I concluded that success depends on the ability to sell.
In fact There are three things I belive determines a great seller of one’s self or product:
- Who you know
- What you know
- How you sell.
Going back to my meeting, I could have done a better job at selling my self to create a lasting impression on those I met. Who you know grows as you sell and the more people you know the better, because it means more in your network. You know more people by selling. What you know helps you sell, in fact knowing is the best way to sell. Most encounters in life would be remembered by how you sold.
Tip for a successfull business 1 July 5, 2006

I work as a freelance web designer/developer. Recently I completed a project for a client in the property sector that took three weeks to complete. The first week was spent producing gathering the clients requirements and producing a mockup. This specific client wanted 3 site designs so that the client could have his pick. The first mistake which I now convert to the first tip is always make sure that whatever your line of business you have a kind of agreement document with the client. A requirement document is very important in web design/dev yet i did not produces one for the client to see and sign off.
3 weeks later the work was done, three templates/design were made for the client who was stunned and happy with the quality of the work. The client choose one and was quoted a price. A week later the client is still giving excuses, about what you may be thinking? One excuse was the job took too long, another was the job was not good enough.
I cannot stress how important it is to have some kind of legal or binding agreement between your business and the client except if you would want to be left with eggs on your face.
I’m going to do some more fact finding for some more help-full tips, anybody have one let me know.
